Today I managed to upload all pictures we got from the organization and friends like Pat Giese (from his blog) http://stollenreiter.wordpress.com/ who took part as well in the race. Have a look at the pictures 2 section.
It was a really great experience and a lot of fun for all of us and we are looking forward to take part 2010 as well! If anyone wants to join us feel free to contact me.
We are back at home!
Everything went really good and everyone is healthy back home with some blue marks but nothing serious which is the most important thing.
The rally was a great experience in a beautiful landscape, especially around Krka national park it looks like that Winnetou and Old Shatterhand will cross your way
The other side is that you can see nearly everywhere except on the coast that the war is not far behind and the destroyed houses and villages are everywhere as well as mine fields and bombs so better stay on the given ways like in your roadbook. The people are working there like 60 years ago with horses and stake-body trucks as well as shepherds and their sheep and goats are everywhere – it is really a poor country behind the really nice coast villages.
My Honda XR400R did a really great job and is still in a very good condition; as well you can see a big difference in the suspension system and hp to the new KTM’s; which is the common bike on this rally. The tire is now completely gone, 1200km of sharp stones and partly hard offroad tracks are too much for the Pirelli MT18 heavy duty. But it is what I expected and luckily all three of us managed it without any flat tire. Luigi was racing with “Mouse”, which a special kind of rubber foam instead of air to fit in your tire; with this system you are completely aware of flat tires but you have to take care about the rim because you are running with only 0.8 bar pressure (which of course makes you faster but if you hit a big stone you will have a snake bite/damage on your rim).
Luigi Sala
overall 12th place, category below 180kg 5th place, team 6th place
Nikolaus Sagmeister
overall 19th place, category below 180kg 9th place, team 6th place
Peter Stickler
overall 47th place, category below 180kg 23rd place, team 6th place
You can see all details of the results in total and of the last day in the pictures section. We had a nice price giving down there and the best riders are former professional motocross or enduro riders. The winner Johann Permadinger former Motocross Austrian champion as well as the other riders in the top 10 showed an incredible speed on the special tests. I am really happy with my result, which is much better than expected and in the middle of the new KTM’s. I finished as best non KTM rider in my category with my old Honda XR and around 10-20 hp less than the others hehe
The trip back home was as well very good no traffic or problems at the border, when they saw the fully loaded car they quit the idea of controlling everything
. I still have a strange feeling in my hands, because of the shaking/vibrating handle bar of my motor bike and will go on now servicing my XR.
Hopefully some one of you will join us for next years Dalmatia rally or any other riding experience.
Take care
the name of todays stage … a bit strange maybe because we crossed to windy mountains or the organizers music taste … who cares.
It was a very fast day again with 2 special tests both gravel roads with very high speed. One across a mountain a the other one on a curvy road. I reached a top speed of 108km/h
The stage was 230km long and I did it in an average speed of 51km/h. Currently we are waiting for todays results and the final price giving. Peter Luigi and I are already dressed up in our team shirts. NO CHAIN NO GAIN
Pictures are updated!
just a short comment for tonight, we had to wait until now for our results. As you know last one from today have to be first at the start tomorrow.
A few numbers which I checked with my sigma, to be in time for each day for your special test starting times and finisching time you have to ride an average speed of 35 km/h offroad. Today on 273km I did it with an average of 47km/h which is really fast but just allows you to drink and eat before the special tests.
Today it was a good day for me and an average for Luigi and a bad one for Peter. Peter chrashed in the special test 1 – the speed one and have a bit pain with rips right now ..
Luigi lost a lot of time in the navigation special test 2 where the roadbook just contains the compass degrees and no other directions. He stille beats me easily with 7:02 in the speed test where I finished with a straight result of 8:00 min. The fastest did in 6:32 or something.
I am on overall place 19 now and in my class on place 7 which is a lot more then expected.
Tomorrow we will have the last stage with around 230 km and as it looks like from the road book to fast special tests. I hope that I can defend my result in the overall valuation. Around me are just bikes with a lot more hp then my one. I will try my best to beat em up
Picture update will come tomorrow
once again the name of the stage was real, we had to ride very competitive 200km yesterday. The 2 special test have been once again a very fast one on a gravel road across a mountain and a single trail navigation test. Hard enduro
I have to pay real respect to the guys with the big enduros especially 2 guys from Vienna a competing with 2 BMW 1200GS (weight of 250kg) of course they have some parts which they do not ride but I would have crahsed this big bikes on the first day.
It was not such a good day for Peter, his tripmaster was not working well and so he did not managed to get to the special tests and the finish in time and catched up 2hours of penelaty time.
Luigi showed that intelligence beats speed and won this day because he was absolulty fastest in the navigation test!
Again it was very good day for me. As I said we are here for glory and pain I managed to be everywhere in time and was good on the special tests. I reached my goal and am the best “non KTM rider” in the orange world of enduros with less than 180kg. As you see in the pictures I climbed up the standings. Overall rank 21st and in my category I am top ten - rank 9.
Today we have a day off to do service work on the bike and give the body a chance to upload the batteries. You can have a llok on the pictures section the rally is hard for the tires I lost already 60% of my new tire. Some guys need to change it every day, but you can see as well that they are really professional equipped. Some former Motocross and Enduro Austrian Champions are riding here as well.
this was the name of todays track, 280 km are really long offroad – was 9 hours on the bike and I am reaaly tired now. Had just for fun the Polar on and was only 1hour 50 in my right training frequenz
but ”burned” 5000 calories …
Again I was lucky the first special test was really though it was called the “ALM” but have nothing to do what we have in my mind by that word, it was just billions of stones and really hard to drive. I chrashed to times in slower turns because I turned my right hand to enthusiastic – I will get a few “blew” marks for that but it was good to cool me down.
Special test 2 was a speed race crossing a mountin - a very slack gravel road uphill for around 15km and downhill for about 12km. Because of my experience from special test 1 I was very concentrated no to crash and was even very fast but due to some really serious injouries the organization quit all results of this test.
Finally I had absolutly no time to make a picture, the few minutes before the single starts to the special tests I had, I used to eat
As you can see in the pictures section once again a good result for me. In total I am 28th now and in my group I am on the 12th now so not bad for my first rally.
Tommorow we will have a 200km course with 333 navigation points and again to special tests.
Today was a long day of waiting for my start … first approval of all documents and so on, then technical approval of the bike, of course everything went fine of all no chain no gain members!
Later on we had a bike corso along the coast and a foto shooting … it is definetly to warm already for sitting on running bikes with full protection clothing for 2 hours.
Finally we got in the back country for the qualifing. The start is always with one minute delay of each rider and the last years best riders are the first 10 then they went on after the starting numbers we got. Luigi was 7th, me 65th and Peter 66th (the number of the beast – nearly)
Peter and I had a sensational result. Peter finished at 30th out of 85th and I finished at 29th palce – although I missed one turnoff and had to do a uturn at the next crossing when I realized that this is the wrong way;-)
Due to the fact that this is the starting row for tomorow I have on more hour time to start. Slowest from the day before have to start first.
As you see in the pictures section the road book for tomorrow is enormous! It looks like that tomorrow will be the longest distance (we only get next day roadbook after we give back the old one). We have an offroad way of 280km for tomorow with 2 special tests/sections!
Once again good night Nik
We had a really good and easy trip down to Biograd, just 6 hours with breaks and without traffic. As we were one of the first to enter the rally park we catched a perfect place for the car and all our staff
Today we started a bit training and gone with Luigi Sala, a nice italian racer (finished seventh last year) on a 80km round trip to get used to the gravel and stone trails. The trails a really full of sharp stones and you have to take about your tires and your health … the speed is high! It was a really great day the location is perfect for enduro riding … as you see in the pictures section. Once again an animal crossed my way this time a turtle was on the trial
Looking forward for tomorrows qualifaction/prolog. Good night! Nik
just was mounting the signal unit and last power cables for the tripmaster and roadbook. Everything is running and I am quite happy so I packed everything away again for the transport. My cat was watching what I am doing and 10 minutes after she went in the house a small hedgehog showd up to controll what I am doing at night in the garage, super funny he was without fear and came over so I touched him and took a few pics with my mobile (really bad ones)
The animals are with us

The preparation, a long term endurance training and of course a lot of technical motorcycling in the Austrian woods is finished.
Just 2 Days to go until we leave on Friday!
Starting to be a bit nervous if everything will run well especially the navigation makes me a bit worry. The Bike is in a good condition and running well, thanks to Guenther who is doing always a great job. As well he is always mentioning why we do not ride MX instead of Enduro/Rally and going for a battle of material as well as body and mind
Peter is leaving Munich tomorrow and will arrive in late afternoon in Klagenfurt. So we have time to change the tires to the Rally ones in the evening. The truth is that Guenther will change the tires and give us a lesson who to handle that with the minimum of tools and only your own power to be able to change them on the track, in case of a flat tire.
It is really incredible how many things you need … with the 2 bikes, the spare tires and all the tools and service material packed in our rally boxes my VW T4 will be fully load.
Looking forward to a funny road trip to Biograd and one day of preparation and roadbook training around there.
